Monday evening saw the start of the Neilston Curling Club 2023/24 season take place, with the Opening Bonspiel the first order of business. This followed the usual format of two four end games, with players picking teams out of a hat.
After the now traditional debate around which badge plays against which badge in the first round of games, a relatively low scoring pair of games were concluded. The only excitement came from a peel on Sheet C between Team Heron & Team Carswell – whilst both skips agreed to play a draw shot to decide the winner, resident umpire Colin was on hand to confirm the Local Rules dictate a coin toss be used instead.
In the second round of games, Team Wood-Connie-Robinson built on their lead from the first game, and secured a win, with Rhona being on the winning team for a second year running.
Attention now moves to the Leggat Cup, with the first match taking place on Wednesday evening between Team Melrose and Team Ferrie.
